Homes ruined and businesses wrecked. This is the picture in parts of Scotland tonight, after torrential downpours brought misery to hundred of households. Several roads were also closed for much of the day due to flooding. In other news: In the Perthshire village of Comrie near Crieff - a major emergency was declared after a river burst its banks. Dozens of residents had to be rescued and will spend the night in temporary accommodation. Both sides in the independence argument have seized on the findings of a new report to claim the economic high ground in the run up to 2014. One of Europe's biggest energy companies is to build a wind turbine manufacturing plant in the East of Scotland, creating more than 750 new jobs. French firm Areva is looking at locations on the Firth of Forth. And in sports: Neil Lennon will invoke the spirit of the Lisbon Lions as he attempts to guide Celtic through to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
